Exploring the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge
I’m always on the lookout for new parks to visit within a stone’s throw of home - which in my case is south Minneapolis, and it’s become even more important during this very on-going pandemic.
My husband and I recently discovered the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge in Bloomington, and it’s quickly becoming one of our favorite spots to visit!
The park has 34 miles of trails and spans over 14,000 acres, providing a home to countless different species of wildlife. My husband's favorite thing to do is look for new birds, and I’m just happy to be away from my desk!
We’ve parked at two separate ends of the park, both near the old cedar bridge, and near the visitor center. The visitor center is currently closed due to the pandemic, so I actually prefer parking near there as it’s less crowded.
The trails are very diverse, taking you through winding woods, crossing over bridges, following along the river, and near wetlands. I have yet to see it all, but what I have walked so far has been amazing.
On one of our recent ventures, we even came across a mulberry tree and had a little trail snack along the way!
So if you’re looking for a little adventure during the pandemic, add the MN Valley National Wildlife Refuge to your list!
