Glamping in Spooner, Wisconsin
Over the 4th of July weekend, my husband and I usually go camping every year. This year, we wanted to feel a sense of normalcy in the midst of the pandemic and thought camping would a great way to do some socially distant traveling.
After looking into booking a campground, however, the sites were already very full (we would’ve had to switch sites partway through the weekend because of so many pre-bookings for the 4th) I took this as a sign that the campgrounds would be too full to be both safe and enjoyable.
So instead, I took to Airbnb to find the perfect cabin we could rent to get the privacy we were looking for and still have all the fun of camping!
We found the perfect place to rent in Spooner, Wisconsin, just over 2 hours away from the Twin Cities. Close enough to make it without needing to stop, but far enough to feel like we were getting away.
The cabin was really more of a glorified garage but it was really comfortable and had just enough amenities and cute decor to be a step up from tent camping, but not enough to feel like a hotel. In a nutshell, it was a beautiful space with electricity but no running water.
The owners of the cabin said they had cleaned, but couldn’t make any guarantees that the space would be COVID-free. So before getting settled, we took the time to disinfect and deep-clean all surfaces. Can’t be too cautious, right?
I’ve never been “glamping” before, it was actually quite wonderful! Especially on a very hot summer day, it was nice to sleep with a fan. Not to mention, having the space entirely to ourselves we didn’t have to worry about disturbing other campers or being disturbed ourselves.
We spent our days listening to the birds, reading, napping in our hammock, cooking around the fire and kayaking around the small, private lake on the property. It was everything I needed after several very stressful months!
So if you're new to camping and don't have/don't want to sleep in a tent, or just want to escape the city while still having a few comforts of home, I can honestly say “Glamping” is a fantastic way to go!
I certainly will not be doing as much traveling this year, or going as far as I’d like, but it was really nice to explore close to home while still having a new experience.
Have any other glamping recommendations near the Twin Cities? I would love to hear them in the comments below!
