Hi, I'm Karen.

I'm excited to share with you my adventures as I galavant around both near and far, exploring everyday adventures through my camera lens.

Julmarknad at the American Swedish Institute

‘Tis the season for holiday markets, and we kicked things off by attending the American Swedish Institute’s Julmarknad.

With over 40 local artisans, traditional Swedish treats and events throughout the day, it’s one of my favorite Christmas markets!

We live just a few blocks away, so we walked down in the morning and joined the already forming line.

While we were waiting, we were given traditional Swedish cookies. You’re supposed to hold the cookie out on your palm, make a wish and tap it. If the cookie breaks into 3 pieces, your wish will come true! Mine broke into 4 pieces.. but I have the luck of the Irish, so I’m pretty much already set up for life. Lolz.

We spent the afternoon checking out all of the local vendors, purchasing some gifts for our family (and a few things for ourselves too.. obvi) and wandering around the historical Turnblad mansion.

During Christmas season, each room of the mansion is curated by a different artist, depicting historical holiday traditions from all over Scandinavia.

The exhibit is open until Jan. 13 - so even if you missed the Julmarknad, you can still go check out the museum!

There are countless more holiday markets popping up all over the Twin Cities and I plan to check out a handful of them, but I think Julmarknad is a tough one to beat!

I wish you all the best holiday season!

XOXO!
